Advising

The Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives’ (OADI) professional advisors provide academic, financial, professional and community guidance for undergraduate students across each of Cornell’s colleges.  We collaborate with key student-facing staff and faculty to support OADI students, so they successfully navigate their undergraduate experience.

OADI advisors seek to provide a welcoming space and a knowledgeable and strengths-based advising approach particularly for students who identify as first in their families to attend college, low income and/or students of color. We utilize best practices in the field of advising and particularly draw from theories and approaches of Appreciative Advising, Strengths-Based Advising and Proactive Advising in our work.

OADI’s professional advisors primarily support and advise students who participate in our signature programs, including EOP/HEOP, Pre Professional Programs (P3), McNair Scholars Program, and OADI Research Scholars (ORSP).  However, OADI advisors are available to meet with any undergraduate student at Cornell. OADI advisors meet with students one-on-one to support academic achievement, professional development and personal wellbeing.  Our advisors are equipped to provide resources and referrals for students in six areas: academic, professional, social/community, financial, civic engagement and personal wellbeing. As professional advisors, our team is committed to understanding the unique needs of our students, maintaining meaningful coalitions across campus and adopting best practices from our campus colleagues and the advising field.
