What do you hope to get out of being an EOP/HEOP Ambassador?
Becoming an HEOP Ambassador has been an amazing opportunity because of the connections I've made with other ambassadors and the events I’ve helped plan for current students. Being an ambassador also means serving as a resource, and I’m incredibly grateful to be someone who can support others who may feel like they don’t quite fit into their environment. HEOP Ambassadors help foster a sense of belonging, which is especially important for prospective and current students navigating new experiences.
What advice do you have for first-year students?
For first-year students, I would definitely advise not to take things too seriously, as this can take a toll on mental health. Prioritizing yourself is key—when you are mentally healthy and prepared, you do better in school and life. HEOP offers so many great resources if you ever find yourself struggling, such as ambassador-led study groups or guidance from an HEOP advisor. Personally, I’ve had Shanna as my advisor, and she’s amazing at finding resources or solutions for any questions I might have.
What do you hope to do with your career in the future?
In the future, I hope to become a lawyer, though I’m still deciding on a specific area of law. My goal is to help underrepresented minorities who lack access to the resources they need. I’ve seen firsthand how the law is not always applied equally, and I want to be a strong advocate for people seeking justice. Growing up in my community, I’ve seen how difficult it can be to access the help you need when opportunities are limited. I hope to be someone who can offer support and make a real difference in bridging that gap.
What is a fun fact about yourself that most people do not know?
A fun fact about me is that I have five siblings, making us a family of six children! Out of all of us, there is only one boy, who happens to be the oldest.
