Jennifer Butler

Name: Jennifer Butler
College: College of Arts and Sciences
Degree: Bachelor of Arts Sociology
Programs: McNair Scholars Program
What was your favorite part of the McNair Scholars program?
My favorite part about being a McNair scholar is having a community of people doing research across various disciplines that come together to share research and participate in scholarship together.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
One piece of advice I have for incoming students is to take advantage of Cornell's resources and opportunities. As you are entering new spaces, push yourself out of your comfort zone and say yes to as many things as possible to meet people and learn more about yourself. I went out of my comfort zone and spent a semester in Washington D.C., and another in London, despite my fears, and those opportunities were some of my best experiences as a Cornellian.
What are you looking forward to most after graduation?
After graduation, I will be pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Princeton University. I am looking forward to furthering my studies and being able to produce meaningful public-facing research that can have impacts on policies and practice.
