What impact has OADI had on your academic or professional experience?

OADI has been instrumental in helping me navigate my academic journey as a first-generation college student. The mentorship, workshops, and supportive community have given me the confidence and resources to pursue opportunities I never imagined for myself—like traveling to health conferences and presenting research. I love being the first in my family to reach these milestones, and OADI has made it possible for me to do so with pride. Every step forward feels like I am making my family proud.

What has it meant to be recognized for an award and as a recipient?

Being recognized with an award was both humbling and empowering. It reminded me that my hard work is seen—not just the end results, but the perseverance and values behind them. It also made me feel like I’m part of a legacy of students from underrepresented backgrounds who are making a meaningful impact in their fields.

What values guide you and inspire you?

My core values are persistence, resilience, equity, and community. I’m driven by a belief that access to education and opportunity should never depend on where someone starts in life. These values inspire me to mentor others, advocate for inclusive spaces, and use my education to give back.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself?

I collect vintage postcards from every place I visit. I like to name all my title plants after iconic Latina women.
