Shanna is passionate about education and has worked in various educational capacities for over ten years including teaching English and writing for Quizlet Inc. She has worked at  Cornell’s Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives since the beginning of 2019 and is thrilled to have the opportunity to support students as they work to achieve their academic and career goals. Shanna holds degrees in Liberal Arts & English Education with a concentration in Sociology and Women’s Studies. She is a licensed educator in the State of Colorado who specialized in Language Arts education for Gifted and Talented students. Her approach to advising is trauma-informed and strengths-based and she is honored to support students in discovering the answers they already have within themselves. In her free time, she enjoys sci-fi and fantasy literature, graphic novels, international travel (she's been to four different continents), playing Roller Derby, gardening, cooking & baking, pouring over politics and technology journal articles, doing research on the intersections of technology and interventions for mental health conditions, making things with her hands, getting her son to laugh and snuggling rescue pit bulls.
