As an Ithaca native, Gabbie decided to venture to the other side of the country for college and spent 2.5 years at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. There, she did a semester abroad in the Dominican Republic. A semester in the DR just wasn’t enough, so she left college to live and work there, reassuring her family that she would indeed finish college at some point. After her time abroad, she landed back in Ithaca, finishing her undergraduate studies in Spanish and Latin American studies at Cornell. Upon graduating, she moved to Washington Heights in New York City, pursued an M.S. Ed in Dual Language and Bilingual Education from Bank Street College and spent 12 years teaching various grades and subjects in three NYC public schools. She also taught a course in language acquisition and learning at the graduate level for a number of years.
Finding herself in Ithaca once again, Gabbie adores her home in OADI and is passionate about supporting students as they explore their interests, discover their unique strengths and pursue their passions. When not in OADI, you can find Gabbie gardening, kickboxing, planning her next DIY project, herding her two boys and spending time with loved ones.
