What was/is your favorite part about OADI?
My favorite part of OADI has definitely been the people. I love talking with the OADI community, whether it is students, advisors, or visitors. Hearing about everyone’s goals and ambitions, and seeing how we motivate and support one another, has made OADI feel like a true home on campus. It is a space where we can all take a breath in the middle of hectic academics and the larger Cornell environment. The community is tight knit, incredibly welcoming, and full of new friendships waiting to happen.
I also have to highlight the front desk staff and Peder. They have been such an important part of my experience at Cornell. We genuinely care about one another, and together we have helped each other navigate through classes, challenges, and always lend a helping hand. I’ve really appreciated Peder’s steady support and his initiative to check in and hear how things are going each week. It is amazing to look back and realize how much I have grown with this community by my side.
Do you have any advice for incoming or first year students?
Get involved and do not be afraid to explore different spaces on campus. Whether it is cultural, hobby based, interest based, professional, or something completely new, there is so much to discover. Even as a senior, I am still finding new communities at Cornell. It can feel daunting, but some of my closest friendships have come from taking those chances.
Most importantly, take care of yourself. You are at an Ivy League school pursuing a dream, and it is normal to feel pressure or feel overwhelmed at times. Make time for small moments of self-care, whatever that looks like for you. It could be enjoying your favorite meal, resting when you need to, going for a walk, or spending time with friends. For me, it is grabbing a matcha, doing my nails, relaxing in bed, or watching a show or YouTube video. Take those moments seriously and give yourself grace as you adjust and grow.
What is next for you after Cornell?
After graduation, I’ll be heading back home to take additional classes as I prepare for the DAT. My goal is to pursue a Master of Science and eventually apply to dental school. I’m excited for the next steps on my journey toward becoming a dentist.
Tell us one of your most important dreams or goals.
One of my most meaningful goals is to work in dental public health and eventually become a professor. As the first person in my family to graduate from college and pursue a professional degree, this journey holds great personal significance. My parents have sacrificed so much for me to attend Cornell, and coming to an institution like this is something none of us ever imagined. I want to make them proud and continue pursuing opportunities they did not have because they truly deserve them.
I hope to use my career to expand dental care and education in underserved communities. I also love teaching, and my experience as a TA has shown me how meaningful it is to help students understand public health concepts. Combining service and education is at the center of my goals, and supporting others through learning is something I want to continue throughout my career.
Tell us a Fun fact about yourself!
I am part of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Inc, the first Latina-based sorority founded at an Ivy League campus right here at Cornell! I love the community service and events we organize, and I’m proud of the impact we’ve been able to make on and off campus.
