What do you hope to get out of being an EOP/HEOP Ambassador?
Being an HEOP/EOP ambassador, I hope to contribute to the community that has done so much for me, and pass on the support, encouragement, and pride that the EOP family has for each of us students. I also hope to promote the program in new social spheres to raise awareness of the importance of programs such as ours, to ensure that HEOP/EOP can continue to grow and flourish, providing endless opportunities to those who might not have had the access they deserved in the past.
What advice do you have for first year students?
The biggest piece of advice I have for first year students is to truly put your trust in your advisor and the rest of the advising team because they will be there for you 110% of the time and want nothing other than for you to succeed. Incorporate them into your support system and routine, and allow yourself to feel vulnerable, so that they can be there to help you feel strong and confident.
What do you hope to do with your career in the future?
Truthfully, I have not set myself on any one career path, however I do eventually want to find my way to working with environmental nonprofits fighting for environmental justice. In the meantime, however, I am very passionate about outdoor education and plan to spend at least a couple of years doing seasonal work around the country, gaining field experience regarding outdoor recreation and spreading awareness on the importance of conservation.
What is a fun fact about yourself that most people do not know?
A fun fact that people might not know about me is that I love arts and crafts and try to make as many of my own accessories as possible. I love making jewelry, crocheting, visibly mending/up-cycling clothes, etc. Let me know if you’re in the market for anything!
