Ryokichi Yatabe Outstanding OADI Alumnus or
Alumna Partner

The Ryokichi Yatabe (B.S. 1876) Award recognizes an alumnus/alumna who has made an ongoing commitment to the university through his/her appreciation and advocacy for campus diversity and his/her active contributions to the betterment of our greater communities as an agent of social change.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The nominee must have graduated from Cornell University at least two years prior to nomination.
  • Alumni award recipients are selected by OADI staff.  

The 2018-19 winner was Tameka Walker-Blake '01.

History
Ryokichi Yatabe (B.S., 1876) was Cornell’s first Japanese graduate. Dr. Yatabe went on to become the first professor of Botany and Curator of Botanic Gardens at the University of Tokyo.
